Aiming to empower the next generation of scientists with the knowledge and skills necessary to tackle the pressing challenges associated with the Southern Ocean, the SO-CHIC / OCEAN:ICE Southern Ocean Summer School 2024 (SOSS 2024) took place on 7-18 May 2024, hosted in Corsica in the small village of Cargèse.
The exceptional environment of the Institut d’Etudes Scientifiques de Cargèse (IESC) provided Early-career scientists participating in the SOSS 2024 with ideal working space. Through expert lectures and collaborative projects, participants had the opportunity to delve into the complexities of the Southern Ocean and gain insights into the latest research and methodologies.
The EPB Secretariat team, Dr. R Badhe, G Couser & E Horovcakova, was happy to contribute to the SOSS 2024 by organising two days of lectures and workshops related to Southern Ocean governance and policy. Many thanks to Dr. S Henley (SOOS / University of Edinburgh), Dr. A van de Putte (Royal Belgian Institute for Natural Sciences, Université Libre de Bruxelles), Dr. Andreas Raspotnik (Fridtjof Nansen Institute) & Dr. D P Sampaio (POLARPOL / AWI) for joining the SOSS in-person or online and sharing their expertise with the Early-career scientists. A special thanks to SOSS Organising committee & all lecturers!
