The Gino Watkins Fund Awards
Published On
The Gino Watkins Fund Awards, administered through the Royal Geographical Society (with IBG) in London, offers up to £4,000 per project to support fieldwork and expeditions that aim to improve knowledge of the polar regions. The fund, which was set up in 1933 in memory of polar explorer Henry George ('Gino') Watkins, can be used to support researchers, expeditioners, and adventurers.
Applications are welcome from scientists at all career stages. There are no residency requirements, although a UK-based team member is beneficial. Applicants do not need to be a member or Fellow of the RGS-IBG. Note, ventures to Iceland in the summer and to Norway are not usually awarded grants.
The deadline for the award is on 31 January 2026, and applicants will be informed of the outcome before April 2026.
