Preparations for the Fifth International Polar Year (IPY-5, 2032–2033) are progressing, with the newly published 2026 Progress Report outlining achievements to date and the next steps towards this global scientific effort.

IPY-5 will bring together researchers and organisations worldwide to advance polar research, strengthen international collaboration and improve our understanding of the Arctic and Antarctic at a critical time of environmental change.

As a member of the IPY-5 Planning Group, the European Polar Board (EPB) is actively involved in shaping the preparations for the Fifth International Polar Year.
